Pre & Post Natal Care

Pregnancy Acupuncture

Pregnancy is a time of extraordinary change that can be challenging physically, emotionally, and mentally. As such, good medical care and support is vital to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help ensure optimal health for your baby and you. Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and natural modality to help women manage difficult symptoms of pregnancy and help prevent the onset of postpartum depression.

Suggested Prenatal Acupuncture Frequency:

  • First Trimester - once or twice a month

  • Second Trimester - once every 2 weeks

  • Third Trimester - weekly treatments

  • First Trimester:

This phase sets the stage for a healthy pregnancy. At this stage, acupuncture can alleviate symptoms of morning sickness, nausea, fatigue and headaches.

  • Second Trimester:

As the fetus grows and the expectant mother’s weight increases, acupuncture can help reduce symptoms of heart burn, sleep complications, low back pain, edema, carpal tunnel, elevated blood pressure and glucose level.

  • Third Trimester:

Acupuncture during this phase prepares the body for labor and delivery. It can help manage sciatica, hip and back pain as well as reduce anxiety associated with labor and motherhood. It can also help turn a breached baby.

Acupuncture for Postnatal Recovery

Acupuncture can help mothers recuperate from labor in several ways:

  • Restore energy and sleep

  • Re-balance hormones

  • Promote lactation

  • Reduce mastitis

  • Heal C-section scars

  • Postpartum depression

Some women may have pre-existing medical conditions that may worsen during pregnancy. Acupuncture is a great option to deal with those conditions without pharmaceutical intervention.
